PAONE aims to be a resource just as equally for independent artist educators as administrators and arts workers who run programs that utilize and hire artist educators. We encourage independent artist educators and arts education administrators to come out for a networking session where we can share programming ideas, opportunities to work together, and meet new faces working in related fields.


PAONE + The Performers Mindset: The Artist’s Mindset

The Performers Mindset is a group of Artists and Educators based in LA who provide professionals with tools to train their mindset, using methods rooted in science and sports psychology. The Performers Mindset has generously offered our PAONE members an opportunity to explore the mindset and how it relates to the world of education in a three-part workshop series at a PWYC rate.


PAONE MEMBER ZOOMS

Starting in October, PAONE will host monthly Zoom Check-Ins open to all members.  These 90-minute sessions will allow members to come together, share opportunities and touch base with each other. Meetings will be scheduled in the first week of the month, but days will vary with the best attempt to include PAONE members' varied schedules.

Tuesday, Oct 6th @ 4pm-5:30pm: What Does Your Programming Look Like Now?, a round-table update on the diverse and creative ways we have all adjusted our programming to face the reality of COVID-19.

PAONE @ The Stratford Festival
POSTPONED - DATE TBD

Travel from Toronto to Stratford with PAONE colleagues! Observe Stratford Festival educational programming including a Prologue pre-show workshop with students and discussion with the Education Department. Enjoy what is sure to be a captivating performance of Hamlet in the afternoon followed by a post-show discussion with members of the cast!

In an effort to flatten the curve, we have decided to postpone the PAONE event on May 22. We hope to schedule a date for the Fall.

Your health and safety, and that of our artists, staff, patrons and community is paramount and this move has been made in an effort to support public health and slow the worldwide spread of this virus.

We will continue to monitor the development and impact of COVID 19, and seek advice from our Public Health officials before we send out any specific date details.

Art Connects: Building Cultural Competence in the Arts

PAONE is proud to announce a partnered event with North York Arts (NYA). As non-Indigenous Arts Service Organizations how do we build positive and authentic relationships with Indigenous communities? How can we incorporate a model of best practice both within our programs and on an institutional level to better support Indigenous artists and communities? How does the Truth & Reconciliation Act apply to work in the arts? Joining us will be NYA, as well as artists Aqua Nibii Waawaaskone, Veronica Johnny and Elder Joanne Dallaire, for a meal and discussion on building positive and authentic relationships in the arts sector.

What is Social Prescribing? In what forms is it being implemented in Toronto? Join us to hear from Surkhab Peerzada (SRCHC) and Melissa Smith (AGO) as they speak about innovative ways to connect cultural institutions and the arts with the healthcare sector. Together, they will talk about SRCHC and AGO’s peer-led program which includes guided gallery visits and art making workshops as well as access to the AGO through the social prescribing evaluation pilot. Learn about the design, implementation, and impact of this evidence-based programming.

Listen up! Etobicoke: community Partnerships in arts education

Listen Up! is a community-based arts creation project anchored in local schools. Developed by the Juno award-winning Gryphon Trio in collaboration with music educator, composer, and conductor Rob Kapilow, Listen Up! has been running in communities across Canada for 9 years. The program is currently in residence at Dixon Grove Public School in Etobicoke.

The Listen Up! team welcomes PAONE to see the program in action. Hear from Listen Up! partners (teachers, artists, principals, community leaders) about their learning during the year-long project and observe a rehearsal with students.

$10 Members/$15 Non-Members
Lunch will be provided.

Discover Dance & A Dialogue on Community Engagement

We will be examining how to engage new audiences with a particular focus on reaching out to communities identified as marginalized or invisible, and those individuals or communities furthest from access. A group of thirty artists and arts administrators came together for PAONE’s second member-initiated conference of 2017. Co-hosted by PAONE member Mixed Company Theatre, the conference became a platform for a highly interactive dialogue about the everyday challenges encountered in engaging communities.
