This workshop, presented by Aoibhinn Finnegan (Board Member, Arts Education Network of Ontario), explores Universal Design for Learning in Arts Education. In recent years there have been developments in education which have moved the focus away from a passive ‘one size fits all’ model to a more learner centered approach. It is widely recognised that learners learn in different ways and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) has been created as a framework to approach teaching and learning in a more inclusive way through a more flexible curriculum accessible to students in a variety of formats. This workshop will be approximately 40 minutes long. We will explore the principles and theory behind Universal Design for Learning and where it sits in Arts Education. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss how these principles apply to their own particular contexts.
